About the Group

The West Surrey Badger Group was formed to watch over the local badger population, and to respond to any activities that may be detrimental to the badger's welfare. We give advice and practical assistance in all problems involving badgers. We also provide a 24-hour emergency service for injured badgers, and respond to incidents of badger persecution. Other activities carried out by the Group include sett surveying and monitoring, giving advice on planning and development, attending local events to promote the cause, and giving educational talks for schools and other groups.

Help us to protect badgers

Badgers are beautiful creatures who keep themselves to themselves. All a badger needs is to be allowed to go about its business unhindered. But, unfortunately, badgers tangle with humans in all sorts of ways.

Badgers are killed by our cars
We build near badgers without thinking what it will mean for both them and us
Some people even bait badgers with dogs for 'sport'

Badger Groups throughout the country try to redress the balance. If you care about these animals:

Drive more slowly on country roads at night
Tell your local group if you know of any proposed building near a badger sett
Ring the police if you see anything suspicious
   Join your local Badger Group

Membership of the Badger Group

Group membership entitles you to attend all evening meetings and any field outings, details of which are in the quarterly newsletter sent to all members. All work carried out by the WSBG is dealt with by volunteers and if you wish to help in any way please contact us.

All enquiries, and reports of persecution or of dead or injured badgers, should be directed to David Williams on 01483 811989.
